Description
Key Responsibilities -
- Design drilling rig structural equipment, including derricks, masts, crown blocks, substructures, and related structural components in compliance with API 4F and applicable international standards.
- Perform engineering calculations for structural integrity, load analysis, stress analysis, deflection, fatigue, buckling, and stability.
- Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs and optimize structural performance.
- Prepare complete engineering design packages, including:
1. Design calculations
2. General Arrangement (GA) drawings
3. Fabrication and manufacturing drawings
4. 3D CAD models
5. Bill of Materials (BOM)
6. Material specifications
7. Welding details
8. Design reports and technical documentation
- Ensure all designs comply with API 4F, customer specifications, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, quality assurance, and project teams during design, fabrication, and inspection phases.
- Review fabrication drawings and resolve engineering queries during manufacturing.
- Provide technical support during inspections, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and customer reviews.
- Participate in internal and external API 4F audits by presenting design calculations, engineering documentation, and compliance records.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, manufacturability, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and document revisions in accordance with company quality management procedures.
Desired Profile -
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in the design of API 4F drilling rig structures or similar heavy steel structural equipment.
- Proven experience in designing:
1. Derricks
2. Masts
3. Crown Blocks
4. Substructures
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, steel structures, and engineering design principles.
- Hands-on experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural validation.
- Experience preparing complete engineering design packages for oil & gas structural equipment.
- Experience participating in at least three API 4F audits.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, welding practices, and fabrication of heavy steel structures.
